I Wish My Parents Would Stop Smoking

I really wish my parents would stop smoking! Every time that I go to their house I leave smelling like an ashtray.

Trust me, I know it isn’t good for their health. But after forty years of smoking, they won’t listen to that argument. I know, I’ve tried. I’m just about at my wit’s end.

I bought them vape pens a couple of years ago. I tried to get them on that bandwagon. It works because it has helped a number of friends. They hated it though. It only took three days to get them right back on cigarettes full-time.

So now, I don’t know what to do. It’s not like I don’t want to visit them. Of course I do. But when I need to go home and shower afterwards, it’s an inconvenience. They smoke outside when I’m around, but the smells already soaked into the home. All of the walls and furniture are smokey.

I’ve thought about buying them one of those smokeless ashtrays that filter out the smoke. I think I could convince them to use that since it’s a lot like a normal ashtray. I’d buy them an air purifier like mine, but they’d get mad I spent so much. They would also hate the noise level and probably never run it.

Do you have any other suggestions for me? Or should I just always leave a change of close in my car for visiting my parents?

In the Market for a New Backpack – Suggestions?

Okay guys, I’m in the market for a new backpack. I’ve been using my Kanken for the past two years and I absolutely love it. But it simply isn’t big enough to carry all of my photography equipment anymore. I need your suggestions.

I’m not looking for an actual camera bag though. What I liked best about my Kanken was the fact that it was stylish and hip. I don’t want to lug around a big heavy black bag. I’d prefer something with both functionality and aesthetics.

Price isn’t a huge concern, but lets keep it realistic. I’m willing to pay for a quality backpack I’ll use every day. But that doesn’t mean I want to spend an absolute fortune.

Please, leave me some comments and point me in the right direction!!

What’s New With Me – Spoiler: Nothing

Yeah, I know it’s been a little while since I last posted. I’m sorry! Life has been kind of busy the past couple of weeks and time just slipped away. I’m back now though, so no need to worry.

I bet you’re probably wondering what’s new in my life since my last update. Well, not really all that much. Like I said, I’ve been working a lot so there hasn’t been free time for much else.

Oh yeah, I did get an air purifier. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was having trouble sleeping and thought it may help by nighttime breathing. Well I was right – it has. After a few days we noticed a huge improvement when we woke up in the morning. It was a little pricey, but it’s worth it for a good night’s sleep.

In other news, this is my new screensaver. I’m sure you can see why. I absolutely love this shot – it’s breathtaking. I’m not exactly sure where it was taken, but I’d love to go there someday. If you happen to know, please send me a message.

Oh yeah #2, I didn’t mention it before because I assumed you all know it’s a given, but my second basil plant died. I told you I don’t have a green thumb and I was right. I’ve given up on an herb garden altogether.

What To Eat??

I’m hungry and have no idea what to eat! Ugh! You think I’d be used to it by now though, right?

It’s like I’m constantly hungry, but at the same time have no idea what I want to eat. Of course all of my standard go-to ideas pop in my head, but I’m either too tired of eating them or too lately to do all of the work in the kitchen.

And of course I don’t want to eat a frozen dinner or get something otherwise unhealthy. Which of course would be the easier route…

I guess in the meantime I’ll just sit here, hungry, until I come up with something or someone gives me a better idea. I welcome your help because this probably won’t be the last time I run into this problem.

Maybe Bad Air Is Keeping Me Awake?

After more and more reading about sleep problems, I got onto the subject of how air pollution affects sleep. Sure, I don’t live somewhere with horrible pollution problems, but I’m sure the air quality in my home isn’t the best ever.

I have a bad habit of smoking indoors. When people come over, which seems like a pretty regular occurrence anymore, they usually smoke inside too. I always try to keep the windows open for a fresh breeze, but it definitely doesn’t get all of the smell out. So I’m assuming there’s still bad stuff that may be keeping me from sleeping at night.

Sure, I could move outside for my occasional smoke, but I’m pretty set in my ways. This got me set reading reviews of air purifiers because of how OCD I am. I have to check out every single option when I’m shopping.

Lo and behold it seems clean air is going to be out of my reach. From what it seems, a real working purifier starts at $400-500 and goes up from there. That’s way more than I had planned but everything in my budget seems to only work on tiny rooms or simply not at all.

Oh well, back to the drawing board… unless one of you want to donate an air purifier to my cause :-).

My Apparent Lack of a Green Thumb

So I’m obviously better off enjoying nature outside than trying to master it indoors.

I recently made a delicious homemade pesto sauce and decided it would be a great idea to grow my own basil at home. After all, it will be cheaper and save a lot of hassle – right? That’s what I thought at least.

My plan was to buy two basil plants – that way I’d be able to alternate using them. Plus, caring for two is only a little more work than one anyways. But things didn’t end up working out so well.

Within a few days the first plant started turning brown and by the end of a week I could tell there was no saving it. I was still hopeful though, because plant #2 was still going strong.

Now, less than two weeks later, the second plant is showing the same signs of impending doom. I’m going to do what I can, but I’m not very hopeful at this point. I guess I’ll just stick to buying by basil at the store instead.

Why Is It So Hard To Sleep Sometimes?

Insomnia sucks. And I know I’m not the only one who feels that way, right? I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to get to sleep at night (and thankfully it isn’t every night) but sometimes it just is.

I don’t know what to do to get around it. I’ve done everything from counting sheep to practicing yoga to aromatherapy. I’ve also spent hours checking sites like this before buying what seems like every sleep-related product you could think of.

But nothing has worked for me yet :-/.

Does anyone have any REAL ideas of things that have worked for them?
